Line Frequency

These encapsulated CT Series are used for Line Frequency from 15 Hz to 50Hz/60 Hz and up to 800 Hz current sensing applications. Typically uses are in watt meter, electricity dispensers, power calibrators, power transducers, precision power meters, digital meters for power systems and server motors.

Current Transformers are used to measure current for power management and controls, applications in safety protection and in current limiting. The CT Series Series are designed using various iron and nickel alloys, permalloy, amorphous and nanocrystalline tape wound core materials. It has an accuracy class of 0.1% to 5% depending on the series types. Please download the data sheets for specifications. Current transformer uses a single turn primary. The primary winding is not built into the transformer itself. It has an opening or hole for the primary wire or cable to go through. The number of secondary turns determines the current ratio. The turn ratio is from 500:1 up to 2500:1. Custom turn ratios are also available.

The terminating resistor is also called the "burden resistor", and it is the resistor across the secondary terminals. The voltage across the terminating resistor is equal to Terminating Resistor divided by Number of secondary turns. This is the voltage that is being measured by the engineer for current monitoring purposes.

The ambient operating temperature is -25 deg C to 125 deg C. Usually the linearity (accuracy) will degrade when the temperature drops below -25 deg C. CWS has developed a new CT-002A series that can be used at -40 deg C and still maintains the linearity.

For application where a DC current is also present in the line, please use our DC Tolerant Current Sense Transformers
